In the late 70’s Angola was on a Civil war and local music productions had difficult times, people danced on music they could listen on the radio by adjusting Semba steps.
The 80’s brought electronic instruments (keyboard, guitar etc.) and musicians started to experiment with new sounds.

Kizomba after class demo
Song - Maria do Castelo by Livongh
In the early 80's Caribbean group Kassav creates Zouk which became very popular also in Angola. Electronic instruments and influence of Zouk Rhythm inspires new generation of Angolan musicians to create a new music genre which after a while was named Kizomba.
Same as Semba, Kizomba is a family dance which you can dance with everyone, also with your parents and children. It's a walking dance done in a hugging position. Dancers walk in a grounded way while shifting weight properly.
