The Code of
Conduct

S-Dance is a small community built on kindness, respect, and a shared love for dance and music. We strive to ensure that everyone who steps onto the dance floor feels safe, respected, and welcome—whether it is your first lesson or your hundredth party. Social dancing relies on trust between partners, and on this page, we explain how this works in practice.

This Code of Conduct makes our mutual expectations clear, helps newcomers know what to expect, and lets everyone know their concerns will be heard and taken seriously.

These guidelines apply to all S-Dance classes, practices, workshops, bootcamps and parties.

How we dance together

1. Respect every “no.”
Anyone can decline a dance, for any reason, without explaining. A “no, thank you” is a complete answer and must always be accepted respectfully.

2. Dance with care.
Use a comfortable connection and movements appropriate to your partner’s experience. Close connection is a part of Kizomba dance, but it should feel welcome and comfortable for both partners. Never force closeness or movement. If you cannot find a connection that works for both of you, it is okay to decline or end the dance.

3. You can stop at any moment.
Either partner can end a dance. When possible, let your partner know politely—for example, “Thank you, I’d like to stop.” You don’t have to explain your reason, and your partner should respect your decision. If you feel unsafe, you can stop and leave immediately.

4. No unwanted touch or comments.
This includes inappropriate touching, sexual remarks, and any pressure to dance or to stay closer than your partner wants.

5. Keep the floor friendly.
Please don’t teach or correct your partner unless they ask. Everyone is learning, and we’re all here to enjoy the music.

6. Look after yourself and others.
Come with good hygiene and be mindful of space on a busy floor. Please don’t dance if alcohol or other substances affect your judgement, coordination or ability to respect boundaries.

If Something Feels Wrong

Tell me (Tatjana) as soon as you feel able. Reporting later is also welcome, even if you’re not sure it’s “serious enough.” You don’t need proof or a perfect explanation. I would always rather hear about a concern than have you feel you must keep it to yourself.

Everyone shares responsibility for keeping our community safe and welcoming. If you experience or witness concerning behavior, please let me know.

How To Report

Speak to me at an event or email me directly at info@sdances.com. Reports are taken seriously and handled as privately as possible.

Anyone who does not respect these guidelines may be asked to stop the behavior, leave the event, or be excluded from future S-Dance activities.
